70 Years of delivering quality printing

WP 70 years

Throughout 2016 Warwick Printing Company are celebrating 70 years of continuous operation as a print company in Warwickshire. From our humble beginnings just after WW2, where we printed in small premises behind a bookshop in the centre of Warwick to our current facilities in Sydenham, Leamington Spa, the company’s underlying principle has always been to ensure financial strength and stability with the continuous reinvestment of profit.

The Company was founded by Moric Schwarz, a Czechoslovakian Jew who escaped to England during WW2. Using the experience he had in the printing industry, he set up Warwick Printing just after the war. The bulk of the early work was for the thriving Midlands motor vehicle industry and included promotional literature and manuals. As the Company expanded, more space was needed and so new premises were built on Theatre Street in Warwick.

In 1974 John Young joined the firm as General Manager with the main objective of developing new business opportunities – the focus being magazines, journals and short run books – which has remained a core part of the work produced by Warwick Printing. Following a management buyout John became the owner of Warwick Printing and has continued to this day as the company’s Managing Director and is very proud to oversee a business that now has three generations of the Young family working for the company.

Commenting on his time at Warwick Printing, John Young said, “I have witnessed many changes to the industry over the years such as the replacement of the hot metal typesetting machines with phototypesetting, which significantly sped up the process. Another step change in the process was the introduction of desktop publishing which then required us comprehensively retrain our existing team with very new skills.”

“Whenever these technological advancements have taken place, we have invested in the necessary equipment and training to ensure we have continued to deliver the best quality product to our clients. The most recent example of this was in 2013 when we invested £2 million in the Heidelberg Speedmaster SX 102 litho printing machine, the first of its kind to arrive in the UK.”

“Over the years there have been some very difficult times for the print industry but we have worked very hard at developing and maintaining our relationships with customers, some of which we have served for over 30 years. We strongly believe that the best way to deliver a great service is to allow the customer to talk directly with the relevant person within the business from initial sales contact, through to design, prepress, production and delivery.”

The Ice Cream Alliance has been using Warwick Printing to design and print their ‘Ice Cream’ magazine for many years and commented, “We are really pleased with every job from the initial concept ideas to the execution of the finished product. The team are always on hand to answer any queries and they are friendly, helpful and professional, as well as being extremely creative and efficient with every project. I couldn’t recommend them more highly!”

Throughout this anniversary year Warwick Printing want to let everyone know about our fantastic service, particularly within the Warwickshire area and we have been looking at ways in which we can work alongside some of the events that take place in the community. It is already confirmed that we will continue our sponsorship of the Leamington Regency 10k Run and this year we will also be supporting the Leamington Carnival as their print and design sponsor.

We have an outstanding reputation for delivering a first class product at a fair price, so please get in touch with @WarwickPrinting or call 01926 889218 to find out what we can do for your business.
